CBSE Class 10 IT (402) — Part B: Unit 3 (Database Management System)

Table Operations & Relationships (Base)

Inserting, editing, and deleting records in Table Data View, sorting and filtering records, establishing Table Relationships (One-to-One, One-to-Many, Many-to-Many), and Referential Integrity rules.

Quick Key Takeaways:
Table Relationships: Created via Tools → Relationships. Drag Primary Key field from Master table and drop onto Foreign Key field in Transaction table.
Referential Integrity: Prevents orphaned records in child tables. Options: No Action, Update/Delete Cascade, Set NULL, Set Default.

Record Operations, Sorting & Filtering

Data Entry

Managing data records inside Table Datasheet View.

• Inserting & Editing Records
Double-click table name to open Table Data View. Enter values in fields. Press Tab or Enter to advance. Modified records are automatically saved when navigating to another row.
• Deleting Records
Right-click the row selector box on the left margin → Select Delete Record.
• Sorting Records
Select column → Click Sort Ascending (A-Z, 0-9) or Sort Descending (Z-A, 9-0) icon on Table Data toolbar.
• Filtering Records
Use AutoFilter (filters by active cell content) or Standard Filter (supports logical criteria e.g. Marks >= 80 AND City = 'Delhi').
2

Establishing Table Relationships

Relational DB

Linking multiple tables based on common shared key fields to eliminate redundancy.

• Types of Relationships
1. One-to-One (1:1): Both fields are Primary Keys (e.g. Person and Passport); 2. One-to-Many (1:N): Primary Key in Parent table links to Foreign Key in Child table (e.g. One Department has Many Employees); 3. Many-to-Many (M:N): Requires an intermediary junction/bridge table.
• Creating Relationships in Base
Tools → Relationships... → Add Tables → Drag Primary Key from parent table and drop onto matching Foreign Key in child table → Relationship line appears.
• Referential Integrity Options
Double-click relationship line. Update/Delete options: Cascade (changes in parent automatically cascade to child records), Set NULL, Set Default, No Action (blocks deletion if child records exist).
Authentic Board Question (3 Marks)Topic: Table Operations & Relationships (Base) RDBMS Architecture & SQL Syntax
Explain the relational database concepts and write the precise SQL commands required for "Table Operations & Relationships (Base)".

Official CBSE Step-by-Step Marking Breakdown:

Step 1: Database Concept & Constraint: Define Primary Key, Foreign Key, Table, Record, Field, or Data Integrity constraint.
1 Mark
Step 2: Standard SQL Statement Syntax: Write grammatically valid SQL syntax (CREATE TABLE, SELECT ... WHERE, INSERT INTO, UPDATE).
1 Mark
Step 3: Execution Output & Semicolon Rule: Demonstrate query execution result and terminate statements with a semicolon (;).
1 Mark
Model Student Answer (Target: Full 3/3 Marks):
For full marks in CBSE IT (402) Database Management on "Table Operations & Relationships (Base)":

1. RDBMS Structural Rule: Define how tables store normalized records and why Primary Keys enforce entity integrity.
2. Valid SQL Query:
``sql SELECT ColumnName1, ColumnName2 FROM TableName WHERE Condition ORDER BY ColumnName ASC; ``
3. Query Execution Result: Explain how the filtering condition processes rows and returns the resultant recordset.
Examiner Mark Deduction Traps:
•Always end every SQL query with a semicolon (;). Missing semicolons cost marks.
•Write SQL keywords (SELECT, FROM, WHERE, ORDER BY, GROUP BY) in uppercase for clarity.
