Global Security Pacts, NATO, QUAD & AUKUS

Global security alliances and plurilateral strategic partnerships define modern geopolitical deterrence, maritime security, and collective defense. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), established in Washington in 1949, is a military alliance anchored by Article 5, which enshrines the principle of collective defense (an attack against one ally is considered an attack against all). Modern Indo-Pacific security architectures have given rise to new plurilateral coalitions, including the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD—comprising India, the United States, Japan, and Australia), which promotes a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific order. Similarly, the AUKUS security partnership (Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States), announced in 2021, focuses on naval nuclear propulsion technology and advanced defense interoperability.
